The Vinyl Tourist Visits
The Saratoga Springs Region

The Saratoga region of New York State's lower Adirondack Mountains (in the northeastern US) is where the Vinyl Tourist calls home. Because it is relatively rural in character, the lack of densely populated cities means the record collector may be doing more driving than looking. But if you're in the area anyway, looking for LP's is one way to escape from the scenic views.

Finally, if you haven't already done so, please read the Vinyl Tourist Caveat.

  1. DiVinyl Revolution
    437 Broadway
    Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
    (518) 306-5167

Formerly a spin-off of Albany's Last Vestige Music Shop, DiVinyl Revolution is now owned by former manager Brittany Nasser. Brightly lit racks, neatly sorted and alphabetized, there's always something interesting in the $1 bins.

  2. The Book Bag
    Saratoga Springs Public Library
    49 Henry St.
    Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
    (518) 584-7860

Located inside the Saratoga Springs Public Library, The Book Bag relies on donations of books, magazines, and records for its stock. Accordingly, the stock varies wildly, but with LP prices at $1 and under it's always worth a look if you're in the neighborhood. Check the link (above) for hours of operation. A good place to donate your unwanted spares and discards, too.

  3. Art Simmons
    212 Fourth St.
    Northville, NY 12134
    (518) 863-4026

    Weekends only!

Literally a garage sale, Art Simmons' store is located in a two-bay garage attached to his house. He has a good selection of mostly older pop, rock, and exotica LP's and 45's and says that he's is planning to open a store in the heart of the village to showcase the 50,000 records which are now in a warehouse. Want lists accepted by mail. Best to call first, if you're planning to visit.

  4. Red's Underground
    65 Main St.
    Glens Falls, NY 12803
    (518) 798-2040

A correspondent wrote to say that when Red moved awhile back, the vinyl disappeared, too.
